AboutSkip Bollinger Expertise Heretofore, I will NOT answer any mechanical question. I am not qualified and can only offer speculations. You are better served by others that are true Techs. With that being said, please only ask about parts and locating obsolete Auto Parts. Thank you.
I have the ability to locate quite a few mechanical parts for American made vehicles fron the 1900`s to present. Some are OEM and some are aftermarket. This would include engine, brake and chassis parts. Body parts and trim are VERY difficult to find but you may inquire.
If you need assistance in repair, I have illustrated books for major American manufacturers that show some illustrations BEFORE 1974. If needed, I can supply repair manuals for your specific vehicle.
PLEASE REMEBER I'M A PARTS SPECIALIST, NOT A TECH!! Thank you..

Question QUESTION: Need a part for a 1986 Ford F-250 Diesel. I believe the part that is being replaced is called a tower fuse. It is diesel specific. It heats up the glow plugs. My mechanic has this part. The part we can not get from Ford or any junk yards here is the wire harness that connects to it. My mechanic says that if one can be located it needs to have a good length of wiring. I hope you can help me.
ANSWER: Carl,
This piece is an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) part only. I become a bit jittery when I try to do something like this because what you say you need and what I interpret what you need may be different. Here is what I want you to do...
I want YOU to call the Ford dealership and get me the Original Ford Part Number. Please give it to me. I will try to locate it. If you give me the part number, I locate it and ship it to you. IF it is wrong, it isn't my fault. Can you see where I'm coming from?
Just so we are on the same page, you call the part a "tower fuse". I have no listing for a component called that. I show a "glow plug relay" which is a round black plastic piece with 4 terminals on it. It looks similar to an old Ford starter solenoid. It also has a bracket made onto it. It supplies power to the glow plugs.
Anyway, I'm more than happy to investigate this for you. It is what I do. I just need the OEM number but I don't have a lot of confidence one will show up new. Your truck is in the "middle area" of restoration and OEM supplying new parts. It is too new to be considered antique and too old for Ford to still have the parts. I will do all I can to help you. I'm just trying to warn you about what may be down the road for us.
I will wait to get the part number from you. I strongly suggest you physically go to the Ford dealership and look at their Microfiche to make sure they are giving you the proper number. You may need to go to your mechanic and look at the wiring harness you need so when you get to the Dealership, you know what you are looking for. I will wait to hear from you.
I hope this finds you and your family well and happy. I await to hear from you..

QUESTION: Skip, I am doing this for a friend. We have the same truck basically. I know mine is a 1985. One wierd this is that we now have 3 conflicting people can that are telling us that his truck is a 1986 or 1984. Insurance is saying 84, a dealer is saying 86, and the mechanic is saying 86. I guess we need to figure that our now too. I have no idea why this is such a problem. As for the Tower Fuse. I believe it does have an alternate name. I will get that also and we will do as you said. Thanks for the help so far.
ANSWER: Carl,
Give me the entire VIN (Vehicle Identification Number). It can be seen through the driver's side of the windshield up on the dash. This will tell me everything (almost) about the truck UNLESS the engine has been changed. THEN we are into a completely different ball game..
Would there be, by any small chance, a white sticker wrapped around the harness with an original Ford part number? Could we get so lucky?? I know the truck is over 20 years old but stranger things have happened. Just let me know.

QUESTION: Skip, I am not sure you ever got my response. I am looking at something on my computer that shows I responded to you and yet out on the internet U loked this conversation up and it appears you never got the follow up from me. It is ergent that I get this part since I am down a truck in my company.
That part number I need is E4TZ-9A451-A which is the Glow Plug Wire Assembly and Harness. I even game you my phone number 931.588.8917 if you need to get a hold of me easier. Please help. I need this truck up and running again.
also I did learn that this is for sure an 86 model truck 6.9L
Answer Carl,
I'm sorry to have taken so long to get back to you. Once you gave me the OEM number, I began looking for it. I had no luck so I called my buddy at Ford truck center and had him double check the number and it was correct.
Next, a hospital in Sedalia, Missouri called me at 6:15am and told me my Mother had fallen and broken her pelvis. So it has gotten a bit crazy around here. I'm sorry.
Tonight I try to get onto AOL Mail and it tells me there is an "Error" in accessing the mail. I just went to the Experts.com website. What a mess.....
Okay, down to business. I ran the number you gave me through my computer and I can't find the harness, new. Here are some numbers I want you to call to see if they may have it. I know it is a long shot but worth a shot. Here we go:
Kama Ford: 763-434-0123 Minnesota
Miller Ford: 607-722-5371 New York
Half Ton Fun: 732-928-9421 New Jersey
Ford-N-More: 800-327-1469 Location unknown
Nuell's 4x4 Trucks: 660-584-7989 Missouri
I'm sure someone is going to tell you to call Green Sales in Ohio or JobLot in New York but neither have it. I have already checked.
You may have to just build a new harness using the existing connectors. You may have to Jerry rig it as you suggested. I don't like the term "Ghetto Rig" as it refers to the original term which I hate. We all cut the same, bleed the same color blood, are hurt when a girl tells us she doesn't want us and cry the same color tears when our child is hurt. The outside makes us NO different on the inside. When will the world learn this?
Be sure to tell your "Significant Other" Happy Valentine's Day. I hope this helps a bit. I hope this finds you and your family safe, well, happy and WARM!!!
