Question
I have a 1992 Ford Explorer it has become hard to steer properly when driving down the road kind of like bad ball joints. I have replaced ball joints, control arm cross linkage, steering box and shocks to no avail it still tries to wander all over the road. There is some play in the steering which I tried to adjust out but this caused the steering not to come back to center with out having to pull it back when driving down the road and turning a curve. I was told by a repair shop that my tires were bad they still have good treads but are a few years old can this cause the problem?

Answer
If you adjusted the steering bow a little too tight..it will be hard to turn and not return to center..

Try loosning the adjustment abit... see if it frees up...
If you still have alot of free play..You may need to replace the steering box.
Very common on Fords..

It is not your tires..

You should run 35-45 psi in your tires on a truck like that..

Good luck..
