Automotive - use of synthetic oils

Expert: Ron Cris - 2/21/2008

Question
I just bought a 95 Pontiac Grand Prix, 3.1 M code engine with 40k miles in new condition.  I was wondering about using synthetic oil, trans fluid, rear differential fluid in the future and the pros and cons of doing this.  Thanks for your help.

Answer
For the most part...

Synthetic oils do last longer with less breakdown.

but...they do also cost more to buy than regular motor oil...

Ive been running 10/30 walmart synthetic in my 2001 truck.
It is made buy penzoil or valvoline..just a different label..
low cost also..

as for trans and rear end..just buy Lucas Brand additives..
they are good products..add to your next fluid change..

Good luck..
