Automotive/compressor works intermittently

Question
Hi! I have a 1994 chevy astro van. The compressor works intermittently. How can I troubleshoot it?
Thanks. Gill

Answer
Hello Gill first make sure there is enough freon in the system. Next you will want to use a wiring diagram and a test light to find out where the lose of power is coming from that is killing the compressor. If you do not have a wiring diagram you can start by testing the two wires on the compressor by the clutch. With the ac on one wire will have power and the other wire will be ground. If the compressor stops working and these wires have power and ground then the problem is going to be in the clutch for the compressor. If there is no power at the wire when the compressor stops then you will need to troubleshoot the wiring system as long as there is enough freon in the system. Low freon will cause the compressor to cycle or shut down. If you need a wiring diagram you can email me at cardoctorc@aol.com leave me a fax number and I will send you out a wiring diagram. Good luck
