Automotive - 98 Taurus Transmission slippage

Expert: Ben Deutschman - 5/21/2008

Question
98 Taurus started jerking and slipping at takeoff all of a sudden. no previous problems. Started all at once. Seems OK when you get past the takeoff. Now does it every time you take off, either slopping or a jerking feel.

Answer
First, you need to check the Fluid level in the Transmission. This has to be done with the Engine running, and fully warmed up. If the level is low, and you've been driving the car any length of time with the level low, you may have done internal damage to the Transmission. If the level is not low, than it may simply be a case of time and wear having taken their toll on your car's Transmission.
