Automotive - Coolant Hose Leakin Under Manifold

Expert: Ron Cris - 5/24/2008

Question
I have a 94 Mercury Grand Marquis. I took it to Mercury to have it looked at because it will not hold water, it is leaking really bad. I was told that I need a new coolant line under the manifold. My question is, how hard would it be to take the whole thing apart myself to get to it to avoid paying the price for labor?

Answer
if it is a 3.0 or 3.8 you may be able to replace the hose without taking it completely apart.
the top half of the in take comes off quite easy.\
i have also used a coat hanger wire to pull new hose under the manifold.without taking the manifold off.
it is a common problem..
good luck.
