Automotive - 2001 GMC Jimmy radiator

Expert: chris ehlerman - 6/30/2008

Question
Truck was overheating and replaced water pump and the radiator.  The radiator is building up sludge and having to flush.  What is causing this build up?

Answer
hello jeff the build up may be coming from oil escaping into the cooling system. If the build up is still in the new radiator check for a bad intake gasket leaking oil into the coolant ports. It is also possible the old radiator was leaking transmission fluid into the cooling system and you are seeing left over residue.
