Automotive - 69 firebird

Expert: Ron Cris - 6/20/2008

Question
i have a 69 firebird with a pontiac 350 engine(2 bbl carb)the problem is on intake manifold.the two center runners(one each side of the carb) from the carb to the heads gets so hot that it is burning the paint off the manifold in that area.the car has been sitting for 6 months and recently started driving it.there is a ticking noise that i haven't determined if it is an ignition miss or an exhaust leak but the engine runs smoothly both at idle and at driving speeds.any help is appreciated, thanks.

Answer
It is more than likly exaust leak..
when you change the intake manifold gasket.\
Put heat restrictors in the center to stop the burning..
they usally come in the gasket set...

Good luck..
