Automotive - gasket problem

Expert: Ron Cris - 8/24/2008

Question
I drive 1996 chevrolet Lumina 3.1 V6.
It has been leaking a little coolant and I have been adding
stopleak to my radiator. It has been preventing coolant to leak. I have been away for 3 weeks and I started my car after 3weeks,it knocks badly. I opened the hood and found out that there is plenty of water in my engine oil. Looks like the coolant leaks about half a gallon every 10 miles or so. I would appreciate if you can tell me what causes this and how much would it cost to fix this.

Answer
it is you intake manifold gaskets..a common problem on that engine..

have your radiator flushed and hose out the engine coolingn system to remove the stop leak when you repair it... also change the motor oil amd filter..
good luck..
