Automotive - Brake Pads

Question
QUESTION: This morning the light came on for brake pads on my 2002 Z3 3.0.1
roadster. Does that mean for front and rear? Do I have to get it done immediately? Can you provide an idea as to cost? Oh, if the brake fluid is low, I could add some but I don't know where the reservoir is located. If the fluid is low and is added, will the light go out?
Thanks.

ANSWER: The pads could be worn either front or rear as this car has sensors on both axles. You will need to look at both and replace asap.Do not add fluid as the fluid will elevate as the calipers are retracted.Check fluid when the new pads are installed.Cost varies for this car.Depends who does it,dealer or shop.

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: Depending on dealer or shop, can you provide the best possible answer in terms of price... Never dealt with a shop before. It's always been the dealer. Their prices are higher but puts my confidence level at high for not having to worry about was the problem fixed. I'd use a shop, but wonder if the same would apply. In other words repaired, and can forget about it and, being able to drive with confidence.

Answer
You can shop around for pads and sensors then take them to the shop of your choice. The time for this job would be 1 hr rear and 1 hr front so whatever the rate is,thats the price.I would charge for this job, both axles,$200,parts and labor. Its a simple job.Nearly all good shops will be BBB registered so look for this symbol.Better business bureau.
