Question 2004 honda odyessy 96k. Runs fine except one instant while stopped at lite, engine became loud, placed it in park and the noise ceased. Engine seemed like it would speed up without pressing gas pedal at times. Could it be time for a timing belt and water pump?
Answer The engine will not tell you when it is time to change the belt, unless it breaks then you will know. This problem you describe could be many things such as,vacuum leak, egr valve, idle control so you will need to have it diagnosed properly. The average life of belt and water pump is 60-70 thous miles.Thats to be safe.
