Automotive - crankshaft/camshaft sensors

Expert: Sean Halliday - 10/10/2009

Question
The check engine light came on in my 2004 Nissan Sentra SE-R and the code indicated that the sensors for the camshaft and/or crankshaft may need replacing. How much might this cost? I understand this is a common problem for this model and year. Are there any "hidden" or "secret" manufacturer's warranties re this problem. Thanks

Thanks

Answer
You could check with the dealer for any recalls but do not hold out any hope of Nissan giving any parts out for free. The cost depends where you have the work done and the sensors you can find online at various parts stores. They are reasonably easy to install.3 hours or less.
