Question
I have a 87 cressida with 201,000 miles on it . Starting in cold weather is tough. The problem is that when i go to drive i can floor the gas peddle and wont build any more then 1800 rpm, and about 20 mph. as soon as it shifts into third gear it seems to do fine until i get to the next stop light. I have yota friends but they are just as stumped as i am.

Answer
Service and maintenance could be a factor also the catalytic converter could be worn out. With the high mileage, possibly loss of compression. If the engine has good enough compression,i would then look at the drive train, that is the transmission first gear.
