Automotive - engine checklight on V6 camry

Expert: Sean Halliday - 11/4/2009

Question
hi guys
the check engine light comes on my 1996 V6 camry.
i have done a diagnostics by bridging Te1 and E1 on the diagnostics port, which has given me a code of 55.

i have disconnected the battery for 5 mins to clear the code and it has come back the next drive.
quick search says it is a knock sensor, but i have no idea which one?

Answer
This car should be obd2 but anyway if you managed to get the code. The knock sensor is on the cylinder block and threads into it,It will have a plug attached.Might have to jack the car up and get at it from underneath. Its usually under the intake side. That will be the rear on a v6.Although some vee engines have them right in the middle of the block between the valve covers.
