Question
were is the ignition switch at

Answer
On most vehicles built from the 1970's, until very recently, the Lock Cylinder, which some mistakenly call the Ignition Switch', is on the Steering Column, near the Steering Wheel, and the actual Ignition Switch is located further down the Steering Column, generally on the top side the Column, just below where the Column goes under the Dashboard. On some applications there is a Rod that connects the 'Lock Cylinder' you put the Key in, to the Ignition Switch. I'd suggest getting a Haynes, or Chilton's Manual that covers your vehicle's Make, Year, and Model. Most Auto Parts Stores like Advance Auto Parts, O' Reilly Auto Parts, and Autozone carry those Manuals. The Manual will give you a more precise picture where the Ignition Switch is on your vehicle, and how to properly remove it.
