Automotive/Engine stops after start

Question
QUESTION: Dear Sean,

I have a small car from 2006 (Mini). Recently I have a problem with the engine: It stops immediately after I start it. I have to start again and then it works, but I am afraid it may not start again tomorrow or next week etc.
Anyway, it is only 42000 km so I don't think that battery is finished etc.
What can be the problem?
thanks in advance.
Jan

ANSWER: Possible vacuum leak or faulty MAF sensor.Does the engine turn over ok?

QUESTION: Once it starts successfully, there is no problem. It drives fine.

Answer
Other possible faults, blocked fuel filter, low fuel pressure. The engine on this car is somewhat complex and this would be a hands on job to find this fault. There are several procedures to determine which component is faulty. The check engine light can help, but as you have not said it came on i assume it did not. This would tell me its either vacuum or fuel.A job for a shop i would say.
