Automotive/86 22R Toyota flooding at idle sometimes

Question
I've got an 86 Toyota 22R ( carburetor )truck and sometimes it floods real bad at an idle but it accelerates fine. Sometimes it runs great, no problems with it at all?

Answer
I would suspect either a bad Float in the Carburetor, or a worn 'Needle and Seat Assembly', which is located where the Fuel Line enters the Carburetor. Most rebuild kits at least have the 'Needle and Seat Assembly' in them, and you may be able to buy a new Float separately. The last, and simplest possibility, is accumulated varnish from the gasoline over the years, causing the 'Needle' in the 'Needle and Seat Assembly', to occasionally hang up. A complete disassembly, and a new 'Needle and Seat Assembly' should fix the problem.

Autozone, Advance Auto Parts, NAPA, to name a few, should have, or be able to get the rebuild kit for your car's Carburetor.
