Question
Mechanic wants $300 to replace water pump.  Is there anything that would cause me much trouble if I do it myself?

Answer
As long as you have a complete set of metric Sockets, open end Wrenches, Box Wrenches, etc, you should be fine. I'd suggest getting at least a Haynes Manual for your Truck at the local Auto Parts Store, so you can review what you need to do the job, before you dive into it.
