Question I recently bought a 1987 xj-6 that had been setting out for 9 months with a bad fuel pump. I installed a new pump a it works fine. Now I have a bad (very strong ) fuel smell from the trunk that bleeds into the cab. I looked everywhere and can not find a leak, either within the trunk or no spotting of fuel underneath. I tightened all the fuel clamps in the trunk and covered the openings in the metal sidewalls that are covering the tanks. I can only feel that it is coming from a vent line somewhere I hope you can point me in a direction. Thank you
Answer If this has 2 filler caps, theres a good chance one of the vent tubes is broken or cracked.Im afraid you will have to inspect all the vent tubes to see which it is.In the rear, look at the fill pipes and check for cracks. It may be necessary to remove the tank again. One other possibility is the seal is not tight enough where the pump goes in the tank.Check google for this diagram as there are many jag clubs listed.
