Automotive/ford contour tank removal and installation

Question
I removed and replace the fuel pump in the tank of my 1999 ford contour and I now have a leak when I fully fill the  tank. What might have caused this?

Answer
I would figure that there is a gasket under the 'Retaining Ring' for the 'Fuel Pump', and that Gasket probably should have been replaced, when the new Pump was installed. If the new Pump came with a new mounting Gasket, it is possible that the Gasket was nicked, or otherwise damaged during the Pump installation, and is now allowing gasoline to leak past it. The last possibility, is that the 'Retaining Ring' loosened up, and therefore needs to be retightened.
