Automotive/1986 Ford Ranger 4wd

Question
I blew the 2.3l engine in my 1986 4wd Ford Ranger. I don't want to get rid of the truck and I can't afford a remanufactured engine right now. I have found a 1990 Ford Ranger 2wd with 2.3l engine. I am wondering if I can swap the engine out of the 1990 into the 1986. Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Rooster

Answer
Any replacement parts must be the same vin id number so if the vin is different then the engine will not fit.I am pretty sure the transmissions are different. The years being so far apart i wouldnt think it will fit.You would need to take a good look at the short block and check all bolt holes are the same.Including the motor mounts. You will have problems with the wiring harness.
