QUESTION: I just had the engine replaced on a 1999 VW Passat with a 1.8 Turbo. The check engine light or any other problem indicator light is not coming on. The new engine is running fine, but now the transmission is not shifting and is making a whisling noise, Any suggestions?

ANSWER: Who fitted this engine?Did the vin from the car you took the engine from, match your vin id digit?

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: Yes the original engine code was AEB and the replacement was also AEB.

Answer
If all the wiring was hooked up properly then the car should be ok.If the harness is exactly the same, i do not know why the lights dont come on.Did you make sure the engine was the same series as some vw parts will not work in other vws.I had a problem with this for a tps sensor which caused a high idle until i got the proper series. You may need to have your on board computer reflashed. The whistle noise could be a vacuum leak.
