Automotive/Emergency Brake Cable freezing 'on' in cold weather

Question
Dealer can't answer why this is happening & won't fix even though it is under warranty:

2009 Nissan Altima - 11,200 miles - 6 speed.
Drove in Rain, then parked with parking brake on.
Over night temp. went below freezing.
Next morn. I released brake handle OK, BUT brake cable was still on.  Cable finally released when temp. got around 40.
What is causing this? What should I say to Dealership?

Answer
Hi, Jan!

My first guess would be that water is getting in the brake cable(s). A thorough greasing of them may fix the problem. I'm not sure if there are boots on the cables for that car, but I'd check to see that they aren't torn as well as looking for any spots that may have rubbed through on the cable housings.

If you complain enough, they'll fix it.
