Automotive/Replacement key needed!
Expert: Skip Bollinger - 2/7/2010
QuestionHello! I've read your other answers, particularly the one for the 1970 Dodge Challenger, with interest and HOPE! We lost the only set of keys for our 1990 Winnebago Elandan (ignition, doors, storage bays, EVERYTHING) and need a replacement for at least the ignition and door locks. Can't drive it without them! Dealers have told us that it is "too old" and can't help us. Have tried unsuccessfully to find a new cylinder instead of replacement keys, but the only one we've found doesn't fit. The RV has a Chevy 350 engine and a tilt wheel if that helps.
Any help would be appreciated - we'd love to get it out of storage and on the road!

Were you able to come with the VIN or a number off the old key switch?
Again, I wasn't trying to be rude by asking for your name. I just like to keep things personal.
"My name is Skip. What is yours? It is so nice to meet you. I hope I can help you?" attitude. I will try to help you.

H. (Please, heretofore, at least a full first name is more personable and polite, Okay?),
I'm not trying to be rude, I just like to know with whom I'm "speaking".
I have been pushing parts for 36 years and learned a long time ago, Manufacturers will cease production of a part and release the Patent so the aftermarket may begin reproduction.
As stated in my Profile, I'm an Auto Parts Specialist, NOT Motorhome but usually, with an ignition switch, it was probably used somewhere in the Automotive venue. Are you able to get me the following information?:
Year: 1990
Make: Winnebago
Model: Elandan
VIN: ????????
Are you able to get me any numbers off the old Ignition Switch?
My thoughts are these:
1. Attempt to find a switch with keys using the OEM part number off your old switch.
2. Find a "Heavy Duty" parts catalog to see if one is offered for Motorhomes.
I have one last option but would like to hold that until we exhaust the first ones. Keep in touch. You can contact me directly at: CarPartMan@aol.com. Just to be sure to put something like "Winnebago Keys" in the Subject Line. It will go into my Spam folder and I just need to know it isn't Spam.
