Automotive/1999 Nissan Sentra using/burning oil

Question
I have a 1999 Nissan Sentra that has about 68000 original miles on it.  It uses a great deal of oil, have to fill er up about every 2 to 3 days.  It doesn't smoke or run bad.  Back end gets black and oily though.  Could this be the rings/cylinders or could it be something else?  Oh yeah, my oil light does not come on anymore when it gets low. Thanks
Larry

Answer
If there is that much residue that the Tailpipe is Oily, then your car's Engine is dumping a lot of Oil right into the Exhaust. Either you have very badly worn Rings, or maybe even a cracked Ring or two.

The Low Oil Indicator Light not coming on, is probably due to a bad Sensor.
