Automotive/Fault codes.

Question
Have a 2000 BMW 323CI series with a M52 engine. After it backfired one time when I started it codes P1188 & P1189 came up. After erasing the codes they didn't come back up. Car runs fine. Would the backfire made these codes come up? I think these codes have to do with the fuel control or the O2 sensors. Is there some kind of good additive that I can add to the fuel that maybe will clean out the system? I'm thinking that I might of got some bad gas. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer
It is not a fuel problem as many bmws can backfire due to a air leak after the maf sensor.Inspect all vacuum hoses especially the one under the intake.Make sure all are tight and no holes or cracks. All bmws will run ok on regular unleaded or whatever your car recommends. No additives are needed.
