Automotive/Power Lock Problem

Question
Hi Sean,
I recently bought a 2001 Mitsubishi Mirage from a private party. The car runs well, but there is a problem with the power locks on the front, passenger-side door. Many times the door will not open. Locking and unlocking the door from inside the car does not help, but locking and unlocking the door from the outside of the car using the key will open the door (however, it can take anywhere between 2 - 12 locking and unlocking cycles). My suspicion is that the problem is electrical. Do you have any thoughts? Thank you very much for your help. Jordy.

Answer
Yes it will be the electic motor which drives the mechanism. If you are handy with electrics, remove the door panel and run a 12 volt power source direct to the motor for the door switch and see if it activates. If not, replace the lock. There will be 2 wires running to the lock which is on the door check.
