Question
QUESTION: Hello, I'm working on an engine and seem to have some problems. The engine will not continue to run. I have chk'd the plugs (regapped) the firing order, the points, and fuel filter and pump.
Pulled the valve cover, nothing unusual. It will start and run for a minute or two then start bucking, I give it gas, it back fires and eventually dies. Has a remanufactured carb on it dont know how old. any suggestions?

ANSWER: I would say if you're certain the Fuel Pump is good, and there are no obstructions from the Gas Tank on up in the Fuel Line (clogs from sediment in the Gas Tank), then it is possible that the remanufactured Carburetor is at fault.

My recent experience with most Auto Parts Store remanufactured Carburetors, has been far from good, with one missing parts right out of the box.

QUESTION: Yep, I thought you would say that, I going to put an electronic ignition in, if it does'nt improve the next step will be carb.  Thank you, you have been very helpful, Blessings to you and yours, Tim

Answer
Do add Electronic Ignition. I believe Chrysler Mopar Performance still makes the 8 Cylinder "Retro-Fit Kit", which will give you the Harness, Wiring Diagram for installation, and the Control Module. The Distributor for the six cylinder is still available through most Auto Parts Stores, though they may have to order it. Back in the 1980's, when the complete Slant-Six kit was available, I made the conversion on my 1960 Plymouth. Best thing I ever did, and the beautiful thing, is it is all stock Mopar Electronic Ignition parts, also still available through most Auto Parts Stores.
