Automotive/timing chain tensioner

Question
do you have any ideas on why the timing chain tensioner on a 2000 chevy S10 pickup (2.2L) would keep going out? I am on the second set of timing gears in two years. The first time I replaced the set the tensioner was in pieces. The second time it was replaced the tensioner nylon guide was warped into almost a horseshoe shape but was no longer touching the chain. this new one has only been in for a few months but that same ticking noise is back and I cannot figure out why it would be bad. thank you in advance for any help you can give!

Answer
This could be a oil failure issue due to the small passage ways being blocked. You may need to remove all the components and inspect the oil passages for proper lubrication or blockages. The only way the chain/tensioner/sprockets will wear out is lack of lube.I assume the usual service and maintenance are all followed?Regular oil changes etc?If not,the engine can get gummed up and cause this. There might be a technical service bulletin on this engine for a modified tension spring or other part as i recall.Check with your local dealer as i remember reading they did recall some of these engines for this problem.
