Question
Within 2-3 miles of driving the car after it has been sitting it shoots up to hot on the temp gauge. new thermostat, new fan, new sensor of some sort. when you shut the car down and wait a couple of minutes it is almost like it resets itself and it will be fine for a while..but not long. i have had it looked at and no one can figure this out and it is making me crazy and very nervous.  any ideas????????????

Answer
Based on my experiences with a 1992 Plymouth Acclaim, and assuming your Sundance also has a four cylinder engine, I'd say you have a blown Head Gasket. To have the Head Gasket replaced, will probably cost between $500.00-$1,000.00, most of that being the labor.

If the rest of the car is in good shape mechanically, and the Body and Chassis are rust free, it may pay to get the Head Gasket job done, if you plan on keeping the car for a while longer.
