Question
Sean, the transmission shifts ok but not at the right speeds.Where would be a good place to to start on this problem?

Answer
This is a problem for the transmission guys as i dont work on them. However,i know some transmissions operate from the speed sensor which times the changes according to the engine speed. In your case it may not have a speed sensor and what it may be is a worn transmission or a simple filter and ATF change might help. With the year of the car its more likely worn components in the transmission. You can have it adjusted if possible as i know the bands can be adjusted and a pressure test will tell you more. The automatic gearbox is so complex and it has so many valves and seals ,governors, solenoids, planetary gears, pump etc..its a problem once time ,heat and dirt get into them. So,sorry but its a job best left to the experts and no job for the weekend auto mechanic as i myself wouldnt touch a auto gearbox.
