Question
I have a 96 jeep grand cherokee and it has over 200,000 miles on it but has a new engine. Recently i started having problems parking it and was informed i had a linkage problem. Well today, i lost all ability to reverse the vechicle and had to really struggle to put it into park. I was just wondering what is the real problem and what solution do you think i should take? i have consulted a mechanic but i just want to know what to expect and if its worth fixing?

Answer
Is this a transmission problem or steering problem? If transmission, then it sounds like your transmission is ready to fail. With the mileage, its possibly in need of a rebuild. If its worth it?.Thats your call as it costs around $1200 to $1500 to rebuild the tranny.A used one may cost $400,,,,,,$700.plus labor. If its the linkage from the shifter, thats not so expensive around $300 to replace the bushings.
