Question Hi Grant,
I need to adjust my wiper on the driver side of my 96 Grand Am. The wipers when turned off do not go all the way down, therefore, when in use
they swing out pass the driver side windshield. How do I adjust them and what do I need to remove.
Answer Hi Rossana
I don't work on very many GM products. Most wiper arms are either held on by a nut (usually hidden under a plastic cover) or splines on the wiper arm mate to matching splines on the wiper pivot, with a steel hinged lock at the pivot. If you raise the hood and look at the wiper arm where it joins the car there is probably a plastic cover that you can pull off by hand or pry off with a small screwdriver. under that cover will be a nut. Remove the nut and wiggle the wiper arm gently back and forth until it pops off. Position the wiper arm at the bottom of the windsheild and tighten the nut ( I usually put a bit of locktight thread locker on the nut) DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN THE NUT. If the wipers are splined there will be no cover to remove. If you look very carefully where the wiper arm is hinged there will be a small metal tab sticking up. raise the wiper arm and pry out the tab. Once the tab is out as far as it will go lower the wiper arm, this will hold the tab in the unlocked position. Wiggle the wiper arm back and forth until it comes off, reposition the wiper, raise the wiper arm and push the locking tab back in.
