Automotive/Brake Lights

Question
I have a1995 Honda Civic. The shifter is stuck in park, unless I used the lock release button. So I replaced the tail lamps because I noticed the brake light were out. After a couple of weeks later the same problem arised.

Answer
The problem could be in the brake/shift cable. You need to remove the consule and have a look.It may simply need some grease. The cable is hooked up to the brake pedal and runs up to the shifter and the ignition switch so check that also.Make sure the cable is releasing when you turn the key.You will hear a click if its working.Next stand on the brake with the consule removed and see if its releasing the shifter. There is a little arm that moves every time you move the shift from park and i have seen these get clogged up from spills such as coffee and dirt etc,,,
