Automotive/VW Jetta Ignition Clickinng -- No turn

Question
Hey Sean --
I have a 2000 VW Jetta that has been sitting for about 10 days. When I tru to start her, I get a half a turn of the engine, then just loud clicking noise -- clickclickclickclickclick. Electrical systems seem OK -- radio, lights, all at good power. I'm thinking this is the alternator?

Answer
Sounds like the battery is dead.Sitting for 10 days is ok for a good battery but if its got a bad cell then it wont hold the charge.Try a new battery or charge up the old one and it may start but repace it first chance you get.The electrics seem ok because the radio and lights dont need the higher amps that the starter requires. Also it could be a sticking solenoid. If you can access the starter ,tap it lightly with a small hammer and then try it.
