Question Hello,I have a 2001 Ford Focus and the Battery light keeps coming on.I replaced the battery as I have had it for six years and still the light goes off and on.Put a tester on it and it is overcharging at 16volts.Do you think it is the Alternator? Car has 28,000 miles on it.When I come to a stop the idle is very rough.Thank you for any input you may have.
Answer Based on what you've written, I can't think of any other reason for a high voltage reading. Most newer cars have the Regulator built into the Alternator, and if it has gone bad, then that would explain the problem you're having. Also, there's no hard and fast guarantee that any Alternator has to last a specific number of miles, or years.
