Question
QUESTION: I have just replaced an automatic transmission in my 96 VW Jetta with a standard transmission and I have been told to do " something" about tricking the neutral safety switch? Can you tell me where it is and how to figure out the wiring?

ANSWER: Standard transmission ?.do you mean a 5 speed?

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: Yes a 5speed. Right now it won't start and I have been told about something to do with tricking the neutral safety switch into thinking it is in neutral?? When I turn the key it won't start right now.

Answer
Seems you have gone to a lot of work. The best way is to find the plug in which goe to the transmission, the original automatic tranny and find the wires.Remove the old switch and plug it in then turn the switch to either park or neutral and the car will start.I cant say which wires to join as i dont have the wiring diagram but if you have a chiltons it will tell you.Its a job for a electrician but if you read the diagram and find the signal wire then join it to the live,it should work without having the switch in place or you can leave it plugged in permanently.
