Aviation/Flying/Which branch of the armed forces?
Expert: Marc Eichler - 11/7/2008
QuestionI would really like to be a pilot in the armed forces but I don't know which branch would be the best for me. I am interested in fixed wing aircraft like jets but I might also like helicopters to be option. I have heard that the Marines or air force would be good. I just don't want to be in the navy because I would be stuck on a boat (I know I might get stationed on a boat anyways even if I join another branch). I also want to be able to go through 4 years of college and get at least most of it paid by the branch I join. Money is an obstacle for me. I have already talked to different recruiters from different branch's but that just confused me more. Thank you for your time and helping a random confused guy. =)
AnswerThanks for using askanexpert. First, only the Navy, Marines, and Coast Guard deploy on ships. So if you don't like the idea of shipboard life, you might want to steer away from those.
Second, in order to be a pilot, you need a college degree so I strongly suggest getting one before trying to become a military aviator.
Third, moneywise, you'll make the same in any of the services. Basic pay throughout the US military is the same. The only way you might make more might be on where you are deployed, etc.
If you need further help, please feel free to write again.
