Question
Hi Ned,  well here it is.  This is a question about a GPS approach plate.   The approach is at N07 in New Jersey for Runway 19.  There are 2 IAF's and only one says no PT.  Does the PT have to be performed for the other.  I'm using Jepp plates and in most cases the Jepp plate shows the hold as a finer line in the racetrack.  In this case the racetrack is shown in a dark heavy line as if I am to fly the PT.  The only problem is, it make no sence to fly the PT if approaching from the north if arriving at the IAF Wanva.  Any chance you can help.  This is kinda new.  Probably around a year old.

From the FAA Air Traffic Manual:


(b) The published procedure will be annotated to indicate when the course reversal is not necessary when flying within a particular TAA area; e.g., "NoPT." Otherwise, the pilot is expected to execute the course reversal under the provisions of 14 CFR Section 91.175. The pilot may elect to use the course reversal pattern when it is not required by the procedure, but must inform air traffic control and receive clearance to do so.
