Question
Hi I was wondering if you could help

I am looking to take up micolighting here in the UK, I have investigated it thoroughly and understand the hours and costs needed to get the NPPL.
My question is, how does this differ from the old PPL(M) that used to exist and also can I instruct on an NPPL or do I need a PPL(A) and a then the NPPL as well as my 100 type specific hours?

Thanks for you time

Answer
Hi Carmen,

To instruct you do not need a PPL (A), only the NPPL & an instructors rating. The minimum hours required for a NPPL for microlights is still 25 hours. The advantage of holding a NPPL over the old system is that now you have the ability to add a Simple Single Aircraft Rating or self-launching motorglide rating.

Hope that helps and best of luck
