QuestionHello!
My name is Aline Lin, and I am from Bucklands Beach Intermediate. We are currently doing a project on our desired future occupations, and I chose that I would quite like to be a pilot. We are required to interview people in the current occupation for our answers relating to the job, therefore prohibiting the use of the internet for info searches. It would be great if you can answer some of my interview questions about being a pilot!! Thanks! The questions are as follows:
1) What is the exact purpose, in your opinion, of a pilot?
2) What did you find difficult when you were studying to become a pilot?
3) How did flying/aerodynamic technology change over the years?
4) Where would’ve been the greatest turning point for flying/aerodynamic technology?
5) How would you rate and explain a pilot's working hours?
6) What academic abilities are most needed for becoming a pilot?
7) What kind of daily routine does a pilot have?
8) How do the flying skills and qualifications required now differ from a few years ago?
9) What are the most important personality traits for a pilot?
10) When might there be another change in flying/aerodynamic technique/technology, and how often do these changes happen?
I'm sorry to bother you with so many questions, and if you are rushed, then it would still be good if you can just write down facts. Thank you again, and So sorry to bother you!
Aline
Answer1. To fly airplanes, of course.
2. The basics are pretty easy for some with good motor skills
3. The transition from props to jets was the last big change.
4. The jet engine.
5. Working hours vary greatly. Some pilots fly 10 days a month and are home every night. On the other hand some are work 16 days a month and are away from home 8 nights as well.
6. Good math and logic skills are needed.
7. Check in and then study the trip planning. Weather, route, fuel required and meet crew. Then examine and prepare the aircraft. Fly the trip. Layover somewhere and then do it again.
8. Basic skills have not changed. Aircraft are now more automated, but the automation does not always work as planned and then the pilots must be ready and able to use their basic skills to handle the plane.
9. Pilots need to be calm, analytical, and patient.
10. No big changes anytime in the foreseeable future. Change tends to be incremental. Sub-orbital space flight may happen in your lifetime.
