Flying for pleasure and flying professionally both have their rewards and challenges, but some people who make the move to career pilot find that it wasn't exactly what they thought it would be. Two friends of mine were very excited to get into airline careers 2000-2005. They spent a couple of years training and flying, at a cost upwards of $40K-50K. Today, both have left to pursue other careers due to the present situation in the industry and the low pay.

What you need to do to is arm yourself with all the research you can about the job so that you can make an informed decision. There are several resources where you can do this and it will take many, many hours of reading to get the 'big picture', so be prepared to spend some time gathering information. Start here - http://www.pilotcareer.info  The basic need to know things are covered and the links to all the pertinent web resources also there to help you gather additional information. Once you read over that site, you ought to have a better idea of what to expect and if flying professionally could be a career match for you.

Hope that helps,
Dottie
