| Comment | Dottie: Thank you VERY much for your answer. I feel much better now. I had a "bad experience" while in the military on a flight (lost cabin pressure) and I've been scared ever since and the other part is just being a parent. (LOL) Also, I know this may seem "silly" or even somewhat "sexist" but I have to share this with you. In my life I've probably flown with 3 female pilots (two on Southwest) and they have been without question the 3 most pleasant flights in my life! Especially the landing!! (Very Gentle) I don't know if this was a factor in the pilots skill but I ABSOLUTELY noticed a difference. Maybe it was all in my head. On my last flight coming back to Baltimore from Las Vegas I was getting a little nervous because of all of the turbulence etc. so the flight attendant took the time to talk to me (on Southwest, of course). She told me that the crew could always tell where a pilot recieved their training by the landing,ie.if the landing was especially rough they probably trained in the Navy and were used to landing on AirCraft Carriers etc. This may have been "small talk" to settle my nerves but I thought it was an interesting observation. Lastly, I understand what you mean about media "hype". I'm a nurse anesthetist and anesthesia is safer now than it's ever been but of course most patients are terrified and when there is an unfortunate "anesthesia related death" on the news I hate to go to work the next day because every patient asks about the incident. As with airline disasters there is always some unreported detail that could explain the incident. So Dottie, I will be a little more relaxed now when I fly. Thanks again for your genuine and honest candor. I really appreciate it. Tony spinothalmic@hotmail.com | ||
