Question
Hi,

First of, what does RT(R) stand for? I know FRTOL is Flight Radio Telephony Operator's Licence.

I have completed my flight training here in the US and am headed back home. We follow the same system as you guys do in the UK.

I know that exams need to be taken for RT. What about the FRTOL?

Is there any particular website that you suggest that could help me study for the RT exams?

Thanks

Answer
Not an expert on this, but I am pretty sure the (R) stands for restricted, and means you can use the RT licence in conjunction with your PPL, but not without it.  ie you PPL has to be valid for your RT licence to be valid.

99% certain The RT exams are the FRTOL exams. Unless they are for people operating air to ground radio; a little like (but idfferent from) UNICOM, in that all communication goes through the guy on the ground.

You should go to www.caa.co.uk and look for publication CAP413, That has the latest RT procedures in it. It's a big pdf, or you can get it printed as I had to many years ago!

Not sure about any web sites, but there's a great general aviation forum at forums.flyer.co.uk

Good luck, enjoy the British weather, and think about training for your IMC rating!
