Pay is higher for pilots than the above poster gives.
At most regional airlines, a typical regional First Officer, during their first year, will make $22,000 to $25,000. After their first year, they can make as much as $40,000 as a second year First Officer. Upgrade to captain usually takes a few years. Most Captains at the regional airline level are making $70,000 or more, even in their first couple of years as a captain. With more seniority, it is not unusual to make $80,000 or more as a regional airline captain.
Major airline pay for first officers, varies per the airline, but typically is in the same range as a regional airline captain, after their first year. Captain pay at the major airline is over $100,000.
