Answer
The best way to start before actually taking lessons is to read all you can about the subject.  My favorite book for beginners is called Stick and Rudder - An Explanation of The Art of Flying, by Wolfgang Langewiesche.  The book was written in the 1940's, and a lot of the technology has changed since then, but it gives the best, easiest to understand explanations on how airplanes fly.  The basics of flying have never changed, and the book is excellent in spite of its age.  Best of luck with your aviation training!
