Spiritual Awakening, Growth, and Enlightenment/book recommendations for spiritual seekers

Question
Hello Bob

I’m writing because I’d like to ask you about something. I think in the life of every person who is looking for the truth and wants to start living more consciously there was a book or books which contributed to his development. And I’d like to ask you if you could recommend me a book or two which made the greatest impression on you, which changed something in your life, touched the right chord in your mind or just you feel are worth looking at. On my part I can recommend you two books which I think are very good. The first one is The Book of Not Knowing by Peter Ralston  http://amzn.to/xHvDlQ which was selected 2010 book of the year by Spiritual Enlightenment Magazine and the other one is Actualizations: You Don’t Have To Rehearse To Be Yourself by Stewart Emery  http://amzn.to/AxE9vS . Both of them are worth reading in my view. Happy New Year!

Thanks

Answer
Hi Luke,

Thanks for your note with book recommendations. I appreciate the manner in which you stress the impact that certain books can have upon an individual who is searching for spiritual nourishment.

Per your question, here are a few books that I would highly recommend to spiritual seekers:

1) Classics: Tao-Te Ching, Bhagavad Gita, Zohar, Dhammapada, Plato's Phaedo, Timeaus, and Republic X, Light on the Path, At the Feet of the Master, Book of Ecclesiastes (Solomon), Upanishads, The Prophet, Dark Night of the Soul, Sermon on the Mount, The Book of Job, Tibetan Book of the Dead, Egyptian Book of the Dead, Divan-e Shams (Rumi), Kojiki (Shinto), The Analects (Confucious), Yoga Sutras, and many, many more.

2) Modern: The Power of Your SuperMind (Howard), Diamond Heart I & II (Almass), Mystic Heart (Teasdale), Oneness (J. Moses), The Essential Unity of All Religions (Das), Escape from Freedom (Fromm), The Power of Myth (J. Campbell), The Secret Teachings of All Ages (M. Hall), God Is A Verb (Cooper), The Perennial Philosophy (Huxley), Fundamentals of the Esoteric Philosophy (De Purucker), Seth Speaks (Roberts), etc.

...and these are but a few of the many wonderful books that I can wholeheartedly recommend!

I wish you all the best and hope that this information is helpful for you...Bob Waxman
