Spiritual Awakening, Growth, and Enlightenment/enlightenment

Dear bob. i had a question about reaching enlightenment. is the only way to reach the highest form of enlightenment by doing everything the buddah teaches or was that just his way of reaching his own form of enlightenment? Is enlightenment different for each person? If so how do i reach my own?

Hi Daniel - thank you for your question. Per your inquiry, I agree with the your premise that the teachings of Buddha are one path to enlightenment. However, each spiritual tradition has a founder or teacher who taught other paths as well.

You are right - enlightenment is different for each person. For example, if you go to a store and try on 20 sweaters, you may find one sweater that feels right - and you'll just know that this is the perfect sweater for you. The same holds true with spiritual and esoteric teachings - you may explore 20 different traditions, but you'll know which one feels right for you at this time in your life.

As you continue to study, practice, and offer to help others - you'll come to a point when there are no more questions - and the answers won't matter. This is the point when you'll feel illuminated from within.

You may wish to read, "The Power of Your SuperMind" by Vernon Howard. In this book, he mentions the names of many enlightened individuals who have contributed to the evolution of world consciousness. Hopefully, you'll be introduced to a spiritual tradition or teacher that fits your needs - like that one perfect sweater.

All the best to you and may your journey be a joyous one - Bob Waxman, Ph.D.
