Ayurveda/Shatavari gulam for children

Dear Dr. Meenakshi,
As I have been taking Shatavary gulam for some time, my daughter tried it and likes the taste and is asking for it regularly. She is 8, pita-vata. Reading of the benefits of Shatavari, they all seem to suit her health, but I'm wondering if there may be any side effect on her hormonal system or development as a girl. If it is fine for her to take it, in what dosage and before/after food? Thank you for answering!

Dear Tina

It is ok to take shatavari for longer duration in your case. For your daughter i will suggest not to continue after 3- 6 months. because it may help in gaining weight. second there is not only shatwari but various other herbs and minerals too in classical shatvari gulm preparation which have aphrodisiac properties.  for a premenstrual child there is no point in giving too much of rasayanas and health supplements. however you can continue if there is some indication and drs have suggested it.
Instead let her natural energy take over her development, while you provide her good nutrition. there is no alternative to good nutrition and natural environment for growing children. I am not in favor of any supplement until unless it is required.

Health and Peace
