QUESTION: Hi Doctor,

Can asava/arishta be taken just after meals, if someone has taken milk/tea or curd with meals? I am asking this as asava/arishta have self generated alcohol & are sour in taste. Will that alcohol and sour taste create any problems?

If it creates problem, then what should be the gap between meal (with milk or curd) and asava/arishta?

ANSWER: Dear sanjeev

Yes asav arishatam you have to take immediately after food. These med have self generated alcohol.that's right. But it doesn't cause any acidyy in the body . Mostly while consuming ayurvedic med we ask patients not to consume curd. But if you have not been advised this you can take in small quantity it will not harm. Rest milk and tea is not advisable with food if you take then you should avoid taking med. But I will advise you to follow diet if on med.

Dear Mr Sanjeev

You should not take milk if want to have medicine. Curd you can't avoid then use less quantity. better will be butter milk. It may cause problem in absorption and burps cause of indigestion.
